  1. The blog itself is a wonderful tool for learning.Instead of writing on paper, answering boring questions you can type instead.Because the youth is experienced with typing because of web pages like Facebook, and online video games, they are motivated to complete writing tasks by computer. The marks are much higher when the students type on the blog compared to writing on paper. They can express themselves much more easier because how much of a pain writing with a pencil on paper is.Also, they can learn new words and the spelling through spell check and they have the dictionary web page on hand, also.

  3. I found the blog very fun and experiencing, every day we have a new question and we answer it and we have a very interesting debate on weather or we agree or dis-agree, it was a very smart and a new creative idea for doing this class blog. Class discussions, mostly people don't like oral but this is a new way to bring your oral communication marks up and showing the skills you have on the computer to make it in actual real life. So i definitely agree that this is a creative and new. So keep it up and i hope that other teachers would start doing this because i guarantee children would really like the idea of creating a class blog for an oral mark.

  4. Using the blog as a means of learning in class, at home, etc is much more unique than the regular generic type of language learning done in most classes.

Also using the blog gives a means to all to express their opinions and to people who in class would not have spoken up but once the blog started the quietest of students express their opinions and good opinions at that and you would never have known had you not opened the blog. So its a great means to see the full potential of all students.

  6. Reading the discussions on the blog is actually very entertaining , you get to read everyones thoughts , in the blog students are more open and write everything going on in their heads at the time, if we were having these discussions in class. not alot of people do say what there thinking , so i believe the blog is Great !

  7. The Blog is a really good way to do homework a lot more easier for people who hate writing their homework or keep forgetting an assignment so all they have to do is hop onto the blog and do it there instead. With the blog for a lot of people like myself dislike talking to everyone in the class when answering a question, it makes it easier for people here; they are typing it up instead of having to speak to the whole class when they can just see it instead. It is much more accessible since it is online, and a bunch of students are going to be online anyways when they get home. This is a great way if a student is sick they can just check online for what they have missed so they can get a chance to catch up.

  8. I think using the blog is a good thing. Answering questions, commenting on peoples comments and asking other classmates questions. Blogging at home is outstanding because you can communicate with classmates out of school. Its somewhere where you can communicate with others and see their opinion on things.

  9. The best part of blogging is that you can blog any time you want, as long as you get it done in the prescribed time given by your mentor/superior(s). Its a free-thought type of thing, censored, of course, else face humiliation. What I also like about the blog is that whenever your away, you can always ask the other students participating about what homework did they get or what they learnt. But the main problem is actually getting people to blog, I myself have missed quite a few, blogs and days. So I have experienced finding out what homework was given today or what we actually learnt. The blog is a creative way to have a conversation, its more attaching. There's more conversation, whereas in a classroom environment, there is just answering the questions, no challenging. In the blog, there are questions that keep comments and challenges and thoughts for hours and hours. We personally, on our blog, have hit 470 comments on one single evening, our biggest yet to come. There is more participation on the blog too, people who wouldnt normally answer in real life answer these great high quality responses, that we would never actually expect.

  10. @ Rukis I agree because it was fun at first then it just starts to wear off and then your mind starts to think ohh i dont have time to blog anymore, but the more you blog the more you learn, and it gets all of us interested the way we explain our answers, and the way we can relate to others is great.

  11. From my experice on our clss blog it has been great because we have different topis and ideas to talk and agrue about, and everyone has different thoguhts about different ideas.Blogging at home has increased alot since we started and its really easy too.For example when we had an snow day , I didnt know we were going to have one ...so i checked the blog and i found out we do. I think its an better way of learning because we dont have an right or an wrong answer and everyone shares their own opinon and everyone can express hwta they have to say easily

  12. I think a blog is a good resource to use , even if people get lazy and don't blog. I'ts easy to use because its on the computer and anyone can access it wherever they go and if you're absent for a day , you could catch up on whatever the class is doing on the blog. Blog is easy to use because if someone is to shy to participate in class it is easier for them to participate on the blog. It is easy to use at home or for homework because it is easy to access and its a time-saver then writing it down on pencil and paper , and it is also very organized .. it is organized to write on and organize to mark.

  13. On the blog its fun to learn what others think, this is because usually in class not many people say whats on their minds while on the blog so many people post that its hard to keep up also at the same time my language has improved a whole lot.Another thing is in my opinion the blog has helped our class learn more about each other

  14. Its a very unique way how you can blog from home, getting accesses from your own home .. doing it for homework, during class hour times, and for absent day like the march/winter breaks. Making an account is very simple, make an Hotmail account, and then make an blog account easy as 1,2,3.

  15. The blog is an amazing and unique way to improve your learning skills it is like an open classroom You could go on anytime and post on the questions. It is a good way for shy kids to open up express them selfs it could be like an oral communication mark. It is pretty cool thing and it is a real active thing.

  16. I find that our class blog is fun and I think it’s a better way to interact throughout a class. Before we had started the class blog and we were having discussions in class the same 4-6 people would only participate, but when we started on the blog everyone would join in, because not many people like having to speak in front of a class. We have a new question almost every day, and we answer it, we agree or disagree with the question or what someone else has posted. A lot of the questions Mr. Cheney has asked have turned into really good debates having 200 to almost 500 comments. Our class blog is also used after school hours when were all at home, almost all the students in the class will go home and be on the computer, so they may as well check the blog and most of us do. I think that other teachers having their own class blog is a great idea, and i think that the students will enjoy having their own class blog.

  17. Blogging makes homework sound fun, almost, because we can blog on our own time, as long as it gets done, and thus, it gives us a little more freedom, and plus, you can multi-task as you are on the computer, whilst blogging, you can do a little assignment you have to type up, or finish that powerpoint that was due last week, and I think that that's the greatest advantage of blogging, multi-tasking.

  18. The blog to me is a way of learning because I know most students don't really like learning straight from the book, and getting to use the blog as your history, and Language Arts work and I think it's fun.

The way I used the blog at home is kind of fun because when I go on the blog at home, all of a sudden I see a whole bunch of comments on the blog and it is awsome to see that everyone is into the blog.

Our blog performances have been great there was one time when the blog went from 20's to 30's-50's..... and went all the way to 470! and that blog topic was an epic performance.

  19. Actually I feel the best blogging is done at home outside of school hours in all our top blogs where we've hit 470,160,280, comments etc. So the blogging at home is a great tool to see the growth of a student and the conversations generated by the class which so far this year have surpassed most if not all conversations done in class.

  20. At some point I kind of get tired of the blog but then I get to like it and it seems fun to do this type of work, and what I like about it is that when my parents tell you to get off the computer and do my homework my response is...I am doing my homework by going on the class blog.

  21. Blogging is a very fun experience. The best part is that you can go on anytime and everyone can participate. In a class, there are always a few students who do all the talking but on the blog, everyone can participate in discussions and say there thoughts/opinions. Also, you can go on anytime. After school, when your home sick, during the March Break etc. And blogging is fun too because you can do other things on the computer while you blog instead of sitting at a desk thinking about what you want to do on the computer later.

  22. i thik that bloging is better then doing a writing peice because first of all you type things and not wirte second because it's on the computer you know like just turn on the computer and start doing the work instead of going through your bag and then taking out the book and then pencils and everything and that is just a waste of time and so what i think is that blog is a good idea and because it saves your time and it is fun because it's like chating with people except on school work and the writing it's like not fun it's only you doing your work by yourself so basically i fing the blog very fun and exciting.

    so i like bloging better.

  23. What I think about our class blog is it's a great way to interact with our class if you dont particpate in class work.It let students have access to the blog during off school hours giving us a way to get our homework and catch up on things we missed during band and strings and if we were away. The blog lets us talk about class room things that we didnt get to finish in class.

  24. I think that this blog is a good experience because it is something that I have never done before and I am an open person, I like to try new things. I enjoy working on the blog because you can other people's point of view. You can also challenge people on their thoughts once you have finished your comment. Another thing I like about the blog is there is always some thing to do. Once you have you finished commenting on one thing you can go to the other ones and see what people are talking about.

  25. @Vanessa
i agree that sometime bloging can get really boring but when people start to talk to you meaning asking you questions or commenting on your answers then it actually isn't that boring. But yeah sometimes it does get boring and i get tired too.

  26. yes i agree bloging i like doing you r hiomework and chating with your friends at the same time.

  27. Our blog has been spectacular, excellent participation after Cheney's "Pep" talks, Quality comments coming from all around, having talks about stuff we actually did in class, for example, we've read 3 books so far, and we are currently in the middle of "The Cheat" by Amy Koss, And throughout the read, we have taken reading comprehension to a new level. Blogging has helped us expand our thoughts, to relate it to other topics. Mr. Cheney has an interesting method to create conversations between us, he's done this three times already, one with a lecture about John Brown, and two read-alouds. In those 3 times, we were in the library and as he was reading, we commented on what he was reading, For example, we did this last week, with "The Cheat", and one of the characters, Dan, went missing. This caused an explosion of comments, because we were all thinking, it made us think, there could have been so many things that could've happened to him. So we overloaded the blog with our thoughts, and it turned into an interesting conversation, the key word about blogging is not typing, its CONVERSATION.

    ReplyDelete
  28. yes i agree that in class only few people are their who participate while others sit their and listen to them instead of sharing their thoughts/opinions but when you blog it's like everyone sharing different kinds of thought/opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Its not just typing on blogs, you put videos and sound-tracks and lectures, in your comments, or if your making a post as a teacher, you can add videos, websites or lectures to make sense to the students.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Hitakshee that is true it kind of gets boring but when it starts to get lively you start get involves with the conversation.

    ReplyDelete
  31. yes you can share whatever you want(apropriate things realted to the work or the assiament) and that makes our blog even more intresting and exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think blogs are very fun and help learning happen faster and easily because they are so easy to cumminicate on and this way students can write what they feel about the topic openly.
Blogs can be very effective because some times when their is a student that has posted a really good post there are other students that will comment it and soon that one post would become the lead of conversation where thought are flushed out and this can result in amazing works of language arts because students are commenting on each others posts and giving extensive detail in conversations which would not happen in class verbaly.
another thing is that you ccan take it home and do it there as if you were still in the classroom but in the comfort of your own home which is what makes it different and original.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Hitakshee blogging can only become boring if no one is answering your questions. But if you get into a good discussion, then it's exciting because you get to voice your opinion and hear someone elses'. Overall, blogging is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah with the blog you can post videos and articles that if you were in a class discussion you would not be able too and this broadens your learning experience.

    ReplyDelete
  35. yeah Vanessa like right now some people are not bloging but if they actually read what people wrote and comment on them then if might not get that boring to them and will actually start getting involve in this.

    ReplyDelete
  36. From my perspective of the bloging experience is that it's very interactive and thought provocing because from the information and learning of the online news and what going on the world everywhere, you get to know many things about people and places. Like the Earthquake and Tsunami aftershock in Japan. We learned about how the world is and is going to be. With connections from Libya and Egypt, that also got alot of controversial topics around the class. Bloging online with other students can really improve your knowledge in the bussiness and crisis world. Examples Libya, Egypt, Japan, America, and also Canada. The interesting thing about bloging online with other people is that different information keeps coming every post that is made. With all this posting on the blog we sometimes reach about 500 comments on one topic question because like I said before different information keeps coming every post.

  37. i think the bolg is fun way of sharing your opinions and thoughts.i think that is a better then haveing a talk with the class where the some people doen't really share or communicate with the class very much, this is where, everyone can talk.when your done you can have a look at what other people worte and respond back if you have any comments.

    ReplyDelete
  38. yeah Alyssa i am not saying that bloging is always boring it is only boring to people who don't get involve in the conversation and to the people who don't read other peoples comments and also like you said it boring when someone don't answer you.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes indeed i agree that our class has been started participating more after Mr.Cheney haves one of his talk with us about how the top people are always going to be on top and the bottom one's are going or continue to be like that.
